The Meta Excellence Speaker Series is a quarterly event designed to bring together business leaders, HR professionals, and growth-minded individuals from Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. Each session explores cutting-edge practices in leadership, emotional intelligence, wellness, and professional character. Through engaging speakers, practical tools, and high-value networking, we support leaders in building resilient, high-performing teams—while contributing to a thriving local business culture. Our audience includes C-suite leaders, HR professionals, team leads, entrepreneurs, and growth-minded individuals. The evening will include thoughtful presentations, interactive learning tools, and a networking session to build genuine connection—something that reflects the heart of the topic itself.
MAY: Empathy vs. Sympathy: The Leader’s Guide to Genuine Connection
This session will explore the fundamental differences between empathy and sympathy, especially in the context of leadership. While sympathy often arises from a place of observation and distance, true empathy is rooted in perspective-taking and emotional attunement. Leaders who practice empathy are able to foster trust, create psychological safety, and lead from a place of shared understanding — outcomes sympathy alone cannot achieve.
We’re inviting speakers to anchor their talk around one or more of the following key themes:

– Understanding how well-meaning expressions of pity can unintentionally disconnect or disempower others.

– How to recognize whether a moment calls for empathy, sympathy, or something else—and how to respond with clarity and intention.
